“Bad Kitty!”
This image has been knocking around in my brain for awhile now, and I had to get it out and move on. I’m ridiculously ADD when it comes to my personal artwork, and usually have about three or four pieces started at any given time. I tend to visit them like forgotten children, straightening a shirt here, brushing back a strand hair there, and then I’m off making another one to completely neglect.
Wait, what? Wow. What a terrible analogy. Here, I’ll fix it with another glass of wine.

Another piece from my archives!
At the time, I was inspired by Mark Waid’s work on Daredevil, which returned Matt Murdock to the more upbeat, swashbuckling version of ol’ hornhead. Paolo Rivera’s artwork on the book was nothing short of transcendent as well, and the energy of his layouts and character designs inspired me immensely when putting my own spin on the ‘Man Without Fear’!
Cheers!

‘It’s Hammer Time’
Fun little marker sketch I did a little over a month ago after a marathon draw session with the insanely talented Ben Caldwell . Nothing gets the creative juices flowing better than drawing with another artist you admire!
I’m not sure where my idea for this little lady came from originally, but I love that she’s got two-toned hair and wields a hammer to bash foes (maybe friends?) about the head and neck repeatedly until blood is drawn.
Definitely my kind of woman.
Cheers!

Logo I created for ‘The Double Shadow’ podcast, which celebrates the weird fiction tales of master author Clark Ashton Smith. He was close friends with cosmic horror god, H.P. Lovecraft. Can you imagine their ‘night out for a pint’ interactions? If so, lose 5 sanity points. This is probably the tightest I’ve worked in awhile, as the logo had to be easily readable since it was going to be sized down for the actual ‘Double Shadow’ site, their Twitter, and board forums. Clark Ashton Smith himself was kind of a weird, squirrely looking bloke, so it was a lot of fun trying to capture his likeness. Add in some creepy shadowed monsters and BOOM! You’ve got yourself a logo worthy of things that go bump in the night!Cheers!-Mooch-Oh, and give ‘The Double Shadow’ a listen. The creatures under your bed will thank you.

'Tough Talk' 'Form of Bat!'

These Vampire sketches are a few months old, but I’m going to be going back through my library to share stuff that never had a permanent ‘home’, as it were. I was originally doing these guys as a ‘daily doodle’ on Twitter, but alas, the responsibilities of the day job caught up with me and prevented me from sticking with it.

I’ve always been fond of the ‘Nosferatu’ style of Vampire. They can look both creepy and cool and lend themselves well to open interpretations, thus my ‘biker’ take. I was also trying to ink fast and loose, an attempt to maintain some of the energy found in the original sketch.

Cheers!

Back In The Saddle Again!

So, after a ridiculously long time, I’m back to sharing my work via blog. I really have no good excuse as to why I stopped to begin with. Partly due to laziness, mostly due to intimidation and lack of conviction in my personal work. I fell into a weird cycle of negativity about my abilities and shared only the bare minimum on the few social media sites I maintained.

Bit of quick background: I mainly make my living as a Product Development Designer, which means I do a ton of design work for consumer products, video games and toys that are sold all over the world. I seriously can’t complain. I’ve worked steadily in this industry since 2001, and I still get that thrill in seeing my work on toy and game shelves, even if most of it goes uncredited. If I’m being completely honest though, the product design work hasn’t been enough to satisfy me on a personal level.

That fire is gnawing in my belly again.  To draw for myself consistently. To draw what I want, however I want, and to do it well.  And that’s what you’ll find here. I hope to share the gamut, from rough sketches, to finished pieces, in all of the different styles I’ve honed over the years. I’m truly excited to be doing this again!

I hope you’ll enjoy what you see here! If you do, please let me know! I’m accustomed to creating in a void, so I’m often hungry for feedback once I’ve released something into the wild. Don’t be shy, I don’t bite.

Much.

Cheers!

On a side note, the look of the blog will be in flux for a while as I figure out how I want to tweak the design. I’m a big fan of clean and simple UI, so it will always remain fairly sparse, but there are some definite illustrated elements I’d love to bring to life. Header, background, etc. Keep your eyes peeled.
